    Select Online forms.

    The Online forms screen will be displayed.

    This screen displays a list of available online forms.

    Select the Private ruling application and objections link.

    The Private rulings and objections screen will be displayed.

    This screen displays the steps required to complete a private ruling.

    There are four steps to completing a private ruling application. You are at step three. Ensure that you have completed steps one and two before proceeding with the application. This includes downloading, completing and saving the application form accessed from ato.gov.au  

    You will need to complete the application in one session. There is no save facility.

    Select the Submit private ruling application link.

    The Private ruling screen will be displayed.

    This screen displays the information required to submit your private ruling application.

    Select the Next button.

    The Private ruling – select main subject screen will be displayed.

    This screen allows you to select the main subject of the private ruling application.

    Select the main subject for the private ruling application from the drop-down list.

    Select the Next button.

    The Private ruling – required information screen will be displayed.

    6 

    Answer the questions for all clients who are the subject of the private ruling application.

    Select the Next button. 

    The Private ruling – applicant details screen will be displayed.

    7 

    This screen displays the applicant details for the private ruling application.

    Update the details displayed on this screen where needed.

    Details collected on this screen will not be used to update our records.

    Select the number of clients from the drop-down list, if there is more than one for this private ruling application.

    Select the Next button.

    The Private ruling – enter client information screen will be displayed.

    This screen allows you to enter the details of the client/s for this private ruling application.

    Enter the details required for each client.

    Select the Next button.

    The Private ruling – confirm client information screen will be displayed.

    This screen confirms the details of the clients for this private ruling application.

    Select the Back button to make changes.

    Select the Next button to continue.

    The Private ruling – file attachments screen will be displayed.

    This screen allows you to attach:

    • your private ruling application, and
    • any additional documents.

    Attachment guidelines: 

    • there is a limit of six attachments per submission
    • each attachment can be no larger than 3.7MB
    • acceptable file types are .doc, .pdf, .rtf, .xls, .tif, .jpg, .zip, .bmp, .mpp, .ppt, .png, .gif, docx, .dotx, .xlsx, .xltx, .pptx, .potx and .ppsx. 
    • if scanning text, use black and white settings at 72 dpi
    • if scanning images, use black and white settings at 200 dpi.

    Select the Browse button.

    The Choose file window will be displayed.

    This screen allows you to select the file to be attached from your computer.

    Select the private ruling application from the list.

    Select the Open button.

    The Private ruling application field displays the name of the file selected.

    Select the Attach button.

    The attached file name is displayed in the Attached files list.

    13 

    Select the Browse button next to the Additional attachment field to attach additional files. You will follow the same process you used to attach the private ruling application.

    To remove a file from the list select the checkbox beside electronically sign the file name you wish to remove and select the Remove files button.

    Select the Next button.

    The Authorise transaction screen will be displayed.

    Select the Submit button to authorise and digitally sign the transaction.

    Your request will be submitted for action and the transaction completed screen will be displayed if successful.
