    Information for using the New mail screen in the Tax Agent and BAS Agent Portals.

    You can make enquiries about a number of subjects using mail. A subject expert will reply to your message in keeping with our commitments to service.

    There are five steps to sending a new message:

    1. Select subject
    2. Choose client
    3. Enter message details
    4. Check and send
    5. Receipt and confirmation

    Select subject

    The Select subject step has two parts:

    • select a topic for your message
    • select a subject for your message.
    Select a topic for your message

    Select a Topic link from the list of available topics displayed. 

    Select a subject for your message

    To select the subject of your message:

    • select the most appropriate subject of your message
    • select Next.

    The subject options that display depend on the topic selected.

    If the subject you require is not available, select the Back button to return to select another Topic link.

    Select the Cancel button if you want to cancel the new message. 

    To ensure we respond to your message in a timely manner, select the relevant message topic. We recommend you send a separate message for each query.

     Choose client

    You can send a new message:

    To send a new message on behalf of your client:

    • select My client 
    • select Next.

    The New message – choose client – search screen is displayed.

    Choose the client for your message:

    • select the client by browsing the list
    • search by TFN/ABN
    • search by name.
    • select Next.

    The New message – enter message details screen is displayed.

    Enter message detail

    The subject details and client details from the previous steps are displayed.

    The enter message details step has two parts:

    • enter message text
    • add attachments.
    Enter message text

    This screen allows you to enter your message details. Enter the details you want to give us in the message text box.

    The maximum message length is 4,000 characters, including spaces.

    The following fields are mandatory:

    • message text
    • contact name.

    Add attachments

    Add any attachments you want to send us.

    • There is a limit of six attachments per message.
    • The maximum file size allowable is 3.7MB.
    • Acceptable files types are .doc, .pdf, .rtf, .xls, .tif, .jpg, .zip, .bmp, .mpp, .ppt, .png, .gif, .docx, .dotx, .xlsx, .xltx, .pptx, .potx and .ppsx.
    • To scan text, use settings at 72 dpi.
    • To scan images, use black and white settings at 200 dpi.

    If you attach files that are larger than 3.7MB, or file types other than those listed above, your file will be rejected.

    Email notification

    We recommend that you set up email notification. You will then receive an automatic email at your nominated email address when a message from us appears in your inbox.

    Check and send

    A summary of the new message is displayed.

    You can select:

    •   Cancel button, to cancel the new message.
    •   Back, to return to a previous step to alter any information.
    •   Printer friendly version, to print the new message.

     You will receive a statement for you to confirm that:

    • the message is true and correct based on your information
    • you are authorised to make the declaration.

    You confirm that the message can be sent when you go to the next step and select Send.

    Receipt and confirmation

    You will receive:

    • confirmation that your message has been sent
    • a receipt number, which you can use to check the status of your message.
