• Private ruling and objection - further information

    This screen is the start page for the Further information online form. You can only use this form to submit information relating to previously lodged private rulings application or objections.

    The previously submitted private ruling application or objection doesn't need to have been submitted through the portal. Submitted information can be information the ATO has requested from you or additional information that you want to submit.

    The Further information screen asks you to identify your previously submitted private ruling application or objection.

    On this screen

    1. Select the type of ATO reference or receipt number from the drop down list.
    2. Enter the number.
    3. Select the Next button.

    If you have both a reference number and a portal receipt number - use the portal receipt number.

    The Further information – applicant details screen will be displayed.

    Identifying the correct number

    Portal lodgment

    If your private ruling or objection was lodged via the portal you should enter the portal receipt number for the original application or any later related further information submissions.

    You can find this receipt number by: going to your portal Mail – sent items box, opening the previous message and selecting the Provision of further information button. The Further information online start page will open and the correct receipt number will already be entered for you.

    You can also locate the number beside ‘Receipt number’ on any of the following documents:

    • a copy of the original submission you printed from a portal screen or saved to your computer
    • the ATO acknowledgement letter for the original private ruling or objection (located at the top right of the letter)
    • the ATO letter you received asking for the further information (located at the top right of the letter).

    Letters you receive about applications lodged through the portal will contain both an ‘Our reference’ number and a ‘Receipt' number located at the top right. Use the receipt number.

    Other forms of lodgment

    If you lodged via post, fax, hand delivery or email, use the last seven digits of the ATO ‘Our reference’ number. This number is located at the top right of:

    • letters requesting further information
    • any other letter about the Private ruling or Objection.
