• Add tax type - select

This screen enables you to add the tax types: Goods and services tax (GST) or Income tax withholding (ITW) to your account.

If you select both tax types, you will go to the Add goods and services tax screen first, then the Add income tax withholding screen.

The GST or ITW tax types may not always be displayed and available for selection.

    Problems adding tax types

Tax types cannot be added in the following circumstances:

    • where an account other than ‘activity statement’ has been selected
    • for deceased clients
    • if you are insolvent
    • if you are a government entity
    • if GST or ITW tax types have already been added on another account.

To check if GST or ITW tax types have already been added on another account, you will need to:

    • select the Back button – this will take you to the Registration summary screen
    • select another account.

    Problems adding GST tax types

A GST tax type cannot be added if you are:

    • part of a GST ‘group registration’
    • part of a GST ‘religious group’
    • part of a GST ‘joint venture group’.

    Re-activating tax types

    • Tax types cannot be re-activated if there is currently an active tax type (of the same type) on any of your other ‘Activity statement’ accounts. Your level of access to the portal (authorisation) may prevent you from viewing the role or account the tax types are attached to.
    • GST tax types can be re-activated if they have a status of cancelled (CAN) or inactive (INA).
    • GST tax types cannot be re-activated on the same day they were cancelled.
    • ITW tax types can be re-activated if they have a status of cancelled (CAN) or inactive (INA). If the status is irregular (IRR), it can be updated.
