• Add or update financial institution details

This screen enables you to add and update your financial institution details. These details include the account name, account number and BSB.

The financial institution details for an income tax role or account are not displayed on this screen.

To register your financial institution details, complete a new mail message using the Registrations mail topic - Bank account details update request.

For all roles or accounts (other than Excise related) the financial institution account provided must be held by the applicant (solely or jointly) or the applicant’s registered tax agent or a legal practitioner acting as trustee or executor for the applicant.

For example, in the case of a partnership, the account must be held by either:

    • the partnership – that is all of the partners, not some
    • the partnership and another entity
    •  the partnership’s registered tax agent
    • a legal practitioner as trustee or executor for the partnership.

The ATO will only pay tax refunds into a recognised financial institution account located in Australia.

In certain circumstances you may request the Commissioner to exercise his discretion to pay electronic refunds into a nominated third party account.

The following mandatory fields must be completed before you can update the financial institution details:

    • account name
    • BSB
    • account number

The Account held by field is mandatory only for non-excise related accounts (indicate whether the account is held by the client, by the client jointly with others, by the tax agent on the client’s behalf, or by a legal practitioner as trustee or executor on behalf of the client).

To update the financial institution details for a role or account
